Gauteng Mec Promotes Cycling With School Bicycle Initiative

Cycling to and from school will not only contribute to learners fitness and health, but it will help them to arrive early. This is according to Gauteng MEC for Roads and Transport Kedibone Diale-Tlabela.

She was handing out bicycles to scores of learners at the Lesedi Secondary and Boshkop Primary Schools, east of Pretoria.

Diale-Tlabela says the 110 bicycles are a donation from private donors and not part of the provincial government budget.

She also used the occasion to assess the schools readiness for the 2025 academic year.

The bicycles are part of our contribution to climate change. Secondly, for ease of movement for children who reside nearby to the school. I know therere children who can walk an hour to this school. So, this is part of our contribution to really assist as per the list the school has given us. And so, theyre the ones that are going to get bicycles, and not everybody whose going to get a bicycle. Because some are from and are dependent on scholar transport, says Diale-Tlabela.
