The Gauteng Education Department says it will embark on a health education campaign for learners in collaboration with the provincial Health Department to identify possibly harmful food.

This follows a recent spate of suspected food poisoning incidents involving learners in the province.

In one incident, 74 learners in Carletonville were hospitalised last week.

In another incident in Hammanskraal yesterday, 47 learners were also hospitalised.

Six children from Naledi in Soweto died after allegedly consuming poisonous snacks.
