Fuel Prices Set To Surge In South Africa Next Week
Motorists in South Africa are bracing for another substantial rise in fuel prices, as data from the Central Energy Fund CEF reveals a sharp increase in petrol and diesel costs.
Projections for February show an under-recovery in the fuel price, signalling upcoming hikes.
According to month-end data, petrol prices are expected to rise by as much as 90 cents per litre, while diesel could see an increase of over R1 per litre. Despite a slight recovery in the rand and a drop in global oil prices, these factors have not been enough to offset the rising fuel costs that have marked the start of the year.
Here are the projected price changes:
- Petrol 93: Increase of 90 cents per litre
- Petrol 95: Increase of 84 cents per litre
- Diesel 0.05 wholesale: Increase of 107 cents per litre
- Diesel 0.005 wholesale: Increase of 103 cents per litre
- Illuminating paraffin: Increase of 98 cents per litre
These price hikes follow an initial 19-cent increase in petrol prices earlier this month, making the start of 2025 particularly costly for consumers.
