Four Released On Warning For Selling Illegal Chemical
Gauteng police have confirmed that the four people who were arrested last week in Johannesburg, for selling an illegal chemical, have been released on a warning after paying a fine.
This after it was found that the chemical they were in possession of was not linked to the deaths of the six children in Naledi, Soweto.
This morning, Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi announced that the cause of death of the six children is a chemical called Organophosphate .
Gauteng Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni says, As an integrated team, we were also advised by the department that these suspects could be released on a warning. We released them on a J534 and they ultimately paid R2000 admission of guilt and the reason is that the suspects be released as they are not the manufacturers for the chemicals.
The incident resulted in public outrage, with local communities accusing foreign-owned spaza shops in townships of selling expired and unsafe food products.
