Former Saa Board Member To Appear In El Court On Extortion Charges

The case against former South African Airways SAA board member, Yakhe Kwinana, will now be heard in the East London Magistrate's Court next week.

She appeared in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Tuesday where the case was postponed. The 60-year-old faces multiple charges including extortion , malicious damage to property and pointing of a firearm.

Police say Kwinanas arrest in Johannesburg ended her alleged reign of terror . In a statement, police say she is linked to a series of taxi violence and extortion cases in East London.

She was allegedly always accompanied by armed men when she threatened her victims and extorted money from them. The victims properties were also allegedly demolished.

Kwinana is expected back in the East London Magistrate's Court next Monday.
