Former Sa Cricketer Buster Farrer Dies Aged 88
Former South African cricketer William 'Buster' Farrer has died.
He was 88.
Farrer played six Tests for South Africa, scoring 220 runs at an average of 27.62. His first Test was against New Zealand in Cape Town on 1 January 1962. His final Test was in Auckland in 1964, also against New Zealand.
Farrier's highest Test score of 40 came against the Black Caps in Johannesburg, where, batting at No 5, he helped South Africa post 464 in their first innings. South Africa went on to win the game by an innings and 51 runs.
Farrer was an accomplished tennis player. He played at Wimbledon in 1956, reaching the second round. In the early 1970s, he played three internationals for the South African hockey team against then Rhodesia Zimbabwe and Australia.
