Former Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has been admitted to hospital.
The reason for his admission is currently unclear.
But his family says in a statement that he is receiving the best available medical care.
Gordhan retired from active politics and from public service at the end of the term of the 6th administration following this years elections.
Adrian Lackay, on behalf of the family, says, His condition has been described as stable and he is receiving the best medical care. At the moment the family is at his side and appeals to the public and media for space, privacy to be there and support him.
