Former Botswana President Ian Khama has appeared before the Gaborone Regional Magistrates Court although being exiled in South Africa for some time.

Khama is facing a number of warrants of arrest issued by authorities in Botswana. The charges include the unlawful possession of a firearm and money laundering.

He has applied for the court to set aside the warrants of arrest. Khama says the charges levelled against him are politically motivated.

He denied the charges and accused his successor President Mokgweetsi Masisi of masterminding the persecution against him.

Masisi has also rejected the accusations.
