forensic analyst links firearm seized from accused 3 to meyiwa murder

Forensic analyst Retha Grobler says after examining the bullet from the Senzo Meyiwa crime scene and the test bullets, she was satisfied that they were both fired from the same firearm.

Grobler is on the witness stand at the High Court in Pretoria where five men are on trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.

Grobler did not do the verification process.

She, however, examined the bullets and gave an opinion confirming the findings by ballistic expert Chris Mangena, linking the firearm seized from accused number 3, Mthobisi Mncube, to the murder.

"I then rotated the bullet on the microscope until I found the same markings visible on the exhibit bullet. I then compared the same markings to each other. From there I proceeded to then move the exhibit and the test to confirm for a follow up. From there I proceeded to rotate to ensure that the markings indeed appear on the exhibit as well as the test. I was then satisfied that the two bullets were fired from the same firearm."
