The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority NCAA has recertified the Murtala Muhammed International Airport MMIA, Lagos, and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport NAIA, Abuja, after a four-year lapse in certification. Despite this achievement, the NCAA has clarified that the airports are not yet 100 compliant with safety standards.
Highlight
-
The recertification marks an important milestone in Nigeria's journey towards aviation safety and security.
-
The previous certifications expired in late 2020, and the recertification process involved addressing 136 items for MMIA and 29 items for NAIA.
-
The NCAA Acting Director-General, Capt. Chris Najomo, emphasized that while the recertification reflects compliance with minimum certification and operating requirements, there are still areas needing improvement.
-
The NCAA will continue to monitor the implementation of Corrective Action Plans CAPs through post-certification surveillance activities.
The recertification is seen as a testament to the leadership of Mr. Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, and President Bola Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda.
