The Florida Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday ends on Friday for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

According to the Florida Department of Revenue, consumers are able to stock up on supplies and pay no sales taxes through Friday, Sept. 6.

There have been two tax holidays in 2024. The first holiday ran June 1-14. The second began on Aug. 24.

Local 10 Hurricane Specialist and Storm Surge Expert Michael Lowry discussed the 2024 hurricane season predictions from the team of scientists at NOAA.

The team predicted an 85% chance of an above-average Atlantic hurricane season in 2024, with 17-25 named storms and 8-13 hurricanes, with 4-7 becoming Category 3, 4, or 5 hurricanes. The 30-year (1991-2020) seasonal averages are 14 named storms, 7 hurricanes, and 3 Category 3 or stronger hurricanes.
