Florida Bill Proposes Study To Consider Eliminating Property Taxes

If paying your yearly tax bill has become, well, taxing, there's a new Florida bill that is proposing a study to consider eliminating property taxes.

SB 852 , proposed by Senator Jonathan Martin, R Fort Myers, calls for the Office of Economic and Demographic Research to conduct a study into property taxes and replacing the lost revenue.

Martin said the bill would explore replacing the revenue with higher taxes on food, household products and other purchases in the state.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis voiced his support in posts on "X", formerly known as Twitter, stating: "I agree that taxing land/property is the more oppressive and ineffective for of taxation."

Florida's schools, infrastructure, law enforcement and several other public services are funded by funds collected by the state through property taxes.
