Flooding Causes Surge In Power Outages Across Johannesburg, Tshwane

City Power Johannesburg is currently handling a high volume of outages reported following Wednesday nights flooding in various parts of the city.

Over 5 000 queries have been logged, with most related to power outages caused by heavy rains .

The utility says the Hursthill and Randburg Service Delivery Centres are among the hardest-hit areas.

However, City Power teams are on-site investigating the causes of these outages.

"We wish to inform our customers that with localised flooding, it makes it difficult and challenging to respond timely to the outages. As you can imagine, most of the roads are blocked off due to the rains. Most are flooded as well, and also, trees have been uprooted, and bridges have been washed away, especially in areas such as Randburg and Fourways, where we are having issues. Some of our cables have been exposed due to soil erosions," says City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
