Flights To Drc Cancelled Amid Unrest

Congolese authorities have blocked access to Goma Airport on the Democratic Republic of the Congos DRC eastern border with Rwanda, and cancelled flights to and from the airport, due to conflict over territory.

The DRC's government spokesperson, Patric Muyaya , said RwandAir was not allowed into the country because of Rwanda's alleged support for rebels. RwandAir agreed to abide by the ban.

'Following the decision of the government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to suspend RwandAir flights, RwandAir has decided to cancel all flights to Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, and Goma with immediate effect,' the airline said in a statement on January 28.

Uganda Airlines has also suspended flights to Kinshasa due to the unrest, according to a notice published by the airline on January 28.

On January 29, Brussels Airlines announced that its Wednesday flights to and from Kinshasa had been cancelled, reports Namibia Press Agency . According to Flight Radar 24 , the cancellations continued on Thursday, January 30.
