Five Suspects To Appear In Alexandra Court For Jmpd Officers Killing

Five suspects arrested for the killing of a Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department JMPD officer in Riverside two weeks ago are expected to appear in the Alexandra Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

The officer was fatally shot multiple times outside her house by unknown gunmen. Her son also sustained injuries during the shooting and was taken to hospital.

The suspects were found in possession of various weapons and firearms.

JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the breakthrough is a result of a tip-off given to officers.

"Acting swiftly on this information, officers from the JMPD proceeded to an address in Riverside, Alexandra. Upon tactical entry, a suspect matching the provided description was located within the premises. Subsequent questioning of the suspect led to further crucial information which led to the apprehension of more suspects. Multiple rounds of ammunition, two firearms, pangas, an air gun, and other items were recovered. A total of five suspects, including one female and four males, were apprehended and charged with murder and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
