The case of five men believed to be linked to a series of murders, carjacking and robberies in and around Durban, has been postponed to next week by the Ntuzuma Magistrates Court.

A video of the accused firing gunshots randomly in the air at the KwaMashu hostel has gone viral.

Police have confirmed that last week, a suspect believed to be one of the gang members was shot and killed in a shootout with police in Inanda.

Police spokesperson, Robert Netshiunda says, Between Monday night and Tuesday morning, five suspects were arrested along the Siyanda Main Road where police had responded to reports of an active armed robbery. Three firearms and a hijacked vehicle were found in their possession. One of them fired shots at the police but was overpowered and arrested.

The suspects are linked to a series of murders, carjacking and robberies along the Dumisani Makhaye Highway, KwaMashu, Inanda, Ntuzuma and the nearby townships. Police are appealing to anyone who might have been a victim of the suspects to come forward. A search for more suspects is underway, Netshiunda adds.
