Five Die In Two Separate Accidents At Harmony Gold Mines
Harmony Gold has reported five deaths as the result of two accidents, each at separate mines, on Tuesday.
Two employees died following a mining incident at Doornkop Mine, in Soweto.
In a separate incident, three employees died following a severe fall of ground incident at Joel Mine in the Free State.
Harmony said the causes of these two unrelated incidents are currently under investigation. These efforts will be led by the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy, supported by labour representatives and mine management at each operation.
'We are devastated by the news of these tragic incidents. The safety and wellbeing of our employees is our first priority, and the loss of lives of our colleagues is deeply saddening,' the company said in a statement on Wednesday.
