City firefighters discovered a body in the Kuils River area yesterday morning, believed to be that of a person who fell into the Highbury canal during inclement weather on 18 July.
The body was discovered by firefighters from the Citys Kuils River Fire Station, and SAPS was notified to lead the recovery effort.
It is believed to be the person who fell into a canal on Thursday. Since the incident, the City has relied on its Fire and Rescue swift water rescue team, the law enforcement marine and environmental unit, and the use of a drone.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims family, while we wait for confirmation from SAPS. I want to thank everyone involved in the four-day search. This was the second such incident in the space of a week in our city, during a time when Cape Town has been grappling with the impacts of severe weather,' said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security JP Smith.
'Also, this weekend, a man drowned after the vehicle he was traveling in became submerged in a wetland along Spine Road extension. Our waterways remain at capacity, and this will likely be the situation for a while still. I want to caution the public to please be incredibly careful at all times.
