Fifa President Infantino Defends Saudi World Cup Decision, Trump Ties

FIFA president Gianni Infantino defended his organization's decision to award the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia on Friday, despite criticism regarding the countrys human rights record and treatment of migrant workers.

The decision to grant the Gulf nation the World Cup was made at a FIFA Congress in December, sparking controversy due to concerns over same-sex relationships being criminalised in Saudi Arabia.

Infantino addressed these concerns in Belfast, stating that the FIFA Congress decision united the global football community.

Infantino was also asked about his relationship with US President Donald Trump.

Trump's daughter, Ivanka, played a role in the FIFA Club World Cup draw in December, and Infantino attended Trump's inauguration in January.
