The FBI assumed the lead in the investigation on Saturday into the shooting that injured former President Donald Trump what the U.S. Secret Service described as a "possible assassination attempt."

Shortly before midnight, Kevin P. Rojek, the FBI special agent in charge of FBI's Pittsburgh Field Office, said agents were conducting interviews and the agency had deployed investigators, including experts on explosives.

"We are not prepared at this time to provide the name," Rojek said about the release of the shooter's identity.

Rojek said the biometric confirmation was pending and there were suspicious packages around where the shooter was.

During the news conference, Pennsylvania State Police Lt. Col. George Bivens said that while the FBI was investigating the assassination attempt his agency was investigating the death of the rally attendee and the two injuries.
