The family of one of the nine soldiers who died in the Democratic Republic of Congo DRC says he had a promising future. 28-year-old Louis Moagi from Moraraleng in Sekororo, Limpopo, joined the South African National Defence Force SANDF in 2018 and was previously deployed in Mozambique.

His uncle, Marcus Moagi, says they last communicated with him this past Thursday but could not get hold of him on Friday.

Moagi says they were later informed of his passing on Friday.

He was a friendly, peace-loving person and a devoted young boy who actually had a vision from a young age. Motsoke Moagi nurtured him, he never gave us any problem. So, when he joined the South African National Defence Force, we knew that this boy had a vision for the nation. Just like when he was in Mozambique, we thought he would come back because even there we used to communicate with him, so unfortunately the very same day we received bad news we could not get hold of him.
