Fabio Grosso Guides Sassuolo Back To Serie A After One-year Absence

fabio grosso guides sassuolo back to serie a after oneyear absence

Sassuolo secured their return to Serie A on Sunday after a one-year absence, with results elsewhere confirming their promotion to Italys top tier. Managed by 2006 World Cup winner Fabio Grosso, Sassuolos rise was mathematically sealed as the Serie B leaders hold a commanding 16-point lead over third-placed Spezia, who were held to a 2-2 draw by Mantova on Sunday.

Sassuolo had already set the stage for their promotion after a 3-1 victory over local rivals Modena on Saturday. With just five matches remaining in the season, their place in Serie A was confirmed.

Grosso, who played a pivotal role in Italys World Cup triumph in 2006, scoring a memorable goal against Germany in the semi-final and converting the winning penalty in the final against France, has been at the helm of Sassuolo since June last year. Under the 47-year-olds leadership, the team has won 23 of their 33 league matches, losing only four times, and have been at the top of the division for much of the season.

Meanwhile, fellow World Cup winner Filippo Inzaghi is also on track for a return to Serie A with Pisa, who sit second in Serie B, seven points clear of Spezia.
