Artificial Intelligence AI experts and innovators are urging Nigerian youths to embrace innovation and adaptability, particularly in utilizing AI to address the country's pressing social and economic challenges. This call was made during the 234 AI Hackathon Games and Competition, which took place at the University of Ibadan, Oyo State. The event was organized by The 234 Project, aiming to bring together young minds to create AI-driven solutions for local issues.

The competition saw participants from several universities, including the University of Ibadan, University of Benin, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology LAUTECH, and Osun State University, working in teams to develop AI applications in agriculture, health, and other sectors. Three winning teams were awarded certificates and cash prizes for their innovative solutions, such as an AI-powered crop disease detection drone, a road accident prevention tool, and a mental health support tool.

The experts at the event, including Co-founders of The 234 Project, Akin Akinboro and Mobolaji Sokunbi, as well as Dr. Adekunbi Omotoso and Aminat Akinyemi-Ayoola from Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Nigeria RAIN, stressed the need for homegrown solutions to Nigeria's problems. They emphasized that AI could play a key role in advancing the country's development.

Ifeoluwa Oyebisi, Programme Manager of The 234 Project, highlighted the importance of the Hackathon in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application of AI. She said that the competition not only fosters collaboration and problem-solving skills but also equips participants with hands-on experience in tackling real-world challenges.
