Former Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney has insisted that he was surprised at Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell not making Englands squad for Euro 2024.
Rooney feels Chilwell would have brought stability in the left-back position for the Three Lions in the tournament.
At the minute, it is Tripper or [Joe] Gomez, for me, who should play there. I was very surprised and really shocked that Ben Chilwell didnt get picked - just for the balance of having a left-footed player there, Rooney said (via The Daily Mail).
He plays at Chelsea and has played well for England in the past.
He is a good left-back - hes been in tournaments as well - so I was really surprised he wasnt selected.
