The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal says it is attending to a series of power outages due to the disruptive rains that have left some parts of the city flooded.

The South African Weather Service issued an alert level 6 warning for disruptive rains and thunderstorms for various parts of KwaZulu-Natal.

The severe weather patterns are expected to persist until this afternoon.

The city is urging residents whose homes may be flooded to evacuate their houses immediately.

Municipal spokesperson Gugu Sisilana says, In case the house is flooded, once the water reaches the ankle height evacuate your house to higher areas especially if you reside in a flood-prone area. Make sure that all your important documents such as your birth certificates, your ID, bank cards, chronic medication, clinic cards and Sassa cards are with you and kept in a sealable waterproof plastic container plastic bag. Make sure you have enough supplies of water for consumption to survive for at least 24 hours during a disaster.
