Ethekwini Exceeds Festive Season Spending Projections
The eThekwini Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal believes it has surpassed its spending expectations this festive season, as thousands of holidaymakers flock to different parts of Durban.
The city had projected that the tourism sector would bring in nearly R2.5 billion in revenue during December.
During a safety campaign walkabout at Durban's beachfront, Mayor Cyril Xaba shared with the media that 21 out of the city's 23 municipal beaches are currently safe for bathing.
Xaba mentioned that the city is seeing a significant increase in both local and international visitors.
"The situation is looking very positive, and Im thrilled with the high numbers," he said. "We promised a busy season, and its great to see that residents and visitors feel safe here. This achievement wouldnt have been possible without a collaborative effort. Its a multi-faceted approach to ensure our people not only feel secure but also enjoy their time here. I know our beaches, and we want visitors to leave Durban with great memories, so theyll want to return. As for the direct spend, I can confidently say that weve exceeded the R2.5 billion target," he added.
