Eskom Needs To Shift Focus To Smaller Power Stations: Yelland

Energy Expert Chris Yelland says Eskom needs to focus on smaller power stations to avoid a power trip of this magnitude.

This follows the power utility escalating loadshedding to Stage 6 since the early hours of Sunday morning until further notice.

Eskom experienced multiple unit trips at three power stations, while undertaking planned maintenance ahead of winter.

Yelland says there has been some progress which was seen last year but the focus has only been on major power stations.

When the generation recovery plan started Eskoms plan was to focus on the major power stations and even within those power stations, the focus was on the generators themselves, the boilers and the equipment associated directly with that particular generation unit or units at the power station. But now it does seem the focus needs to shift somewhat to other priority areas and this includes other power stations that are not as big or older power stations.
