Energy Teams Focus On Streetlight Maintenance Ahead Of Busy Season

As the festive season approaches, the City of Cape Town is ramping up its efforts to ensure key routes throughout the metro are well-lit, welcoming both residents and visitors to the Mother City, reports Cape town Etc .

With major roads like Philip Kgosana Drive, the R27, M3 and parts of the N2 in focus, energy teams are working tirelessly to maintain the streetlights that help guide travellers safely through the metro.

Energy teams are actively addressing issues of theft and vandalism that have plagued the citys street lighting infrastructure, which often disrupts the burn rate along popular routes. National and provincial agencies, responsible for certain national roads and off-ramps, contribute to the challenge, further affecting the citys lighting upkeep.

Xanthea Limberg, the City's mayoral committee member for Energy, has been overseeing streetlight maintenance projects across Cape Town in recent months. This includes a dedicated focus on both maintaining streetlights and advancing the Citys LED retrofitting projects.

Over the past few months, I've been visiting streetlight maintenance and repair projects across the metro, from Manenberg to Khayelitsha, Mitchells Plain to Wynberg, Lavender Hill, Kraaifontein, and Parow. This also includes our LED retrofitting projects, Limberg shared.
