Tech enthusiasts everywhere are buzzing with excitement ever since recent rumors surrounding Elon Musk and Tesla's entry into the smartphone market have circulated on the internet. Though there has not been any official announcement from either Tesla or Elon Musk himself at any point regarding a Tesla smartphone, referred to online as the "Tesla Pi Phone", the rumors have been going around for years about a potential smartphone from the electric vehicle and tech giant.
No Official AnnouncementThe excitement surrounding a potential Tesla smartphone grew from certain speculative YouTube videos and design concepts, none based on any actual leaks from Tesla. One of the key sources of the rumors is a concept video from 2021 by ADR Studio Design, which imagined what a Tesla phone could look like. Mockups in the video showed an imagined device with features like solar charging, Neuralink integration, and even interplanetary connectivity via Starlink satellites. However, these futuristic concepts were purely speculative with no corroboration from Tesla or Musk.
Musk himself has been notably dismissive of current smartphone technology, outright denying its development in a post on X from 2020, saying
"Definitely not. Smartwatches phones are yesterday's technology, Neuralinks are the future." September 14, 2020
