Eliud Kipchoge Announces Plans To Compete In Sydney Marathon

Two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge from Kenya has announced that he will compete in the Sydney Marathon this August.
At 40, Kipchoge, who clinched back-to-back Olympic titles in 2016 and 2020, made history in 2019 when he became the first person to run a marathon in under two hours, achieving a time of 1:59:40 in Vienna. Although this remarkable feat didn't count as an official world record due to the absence of standard competition rules, it remains a monumental achievement.
"I'm so excited," Kipchoge said in a statement. "This will be my first time running the TCS Sydney Marathon, and also my debut in Oceania. Running in Australia is a fantastic opportunity for me."
With a stellar record of 16 wins from 21 officially ratified marathons, including a remarkable streak of 10 consecutive victories from 2014 to 2019, Kipchoge is widely regarded as one of the greatest marathoners of all time. His second fastest marathon time of 2:01:09 is a testament to his dominance in the sport.
Before heading to Sydney, Kipchoge will compete in the London Marathon next month, adding to his illustrious career.
