Nigerias El Kanemi Warriors headline the clubs chasing a place in the next phase of the CAF Confederation Cup, as the second-leg matches of the first qualifying round are played this weekend.
Warriors could only draw 1-1 at home to Dadje FC of Benin last weekend, leaving them in danger of an early exit from the continental competition, unless they can put up a strong performance on Saturday afternoon in Cotonou.
El Kanemi coach Aliyu Zubairu has bemoaned a pre-season lacking in quality matches to get his team up to speed: The time we were supposed to go for pre-season tournament was when the #EndBadGovernance protest broke out in the country and the Governor said we shouldnt risk the life of any player by going out of the state.
By the time the protest ended, we couldnt play any grade A match and certainly, the inability to play matches showed in our game negatively.
The other Nigerian team in the Confederation Cup this season is Enyimba, who are one of 12 seeded clubs awaiting the winners of certain first-round ties in the next stage.
