Eff Questions Presidency's 'silence' On Mashatile's Car 'shooting' Incident

The Economic Freedom Fighters EFF says the Presidencys silence on the alleged shooting of Deputy President Paul Mashatiles car is troubling.
The incident reportedly happened on 30 March as Mashatile was being driven from an African National Congress ANC National Executive Meeting NEC meeting held in Boksburg, Gauteng.
EFF on Paul Mashatiles alleged shooting incidentIn a statement on Monday 21 April, the EFF expressed concern at the reports, adding that any attempt on Mashatiles life is not only alarming, but also poses a significant threat to national security.
What is equally troubling is the silence from the Presidency and state security agencies regarding the details of this incident, the party said.
In times of such gravity, transparency is paramount. The public has the right to be informed about threats to national leaders, irrespective of political affiliations.
The South African Police Service SAPS has declined to comment on the alleged incident.
"The SAPS does not discuss or comment on safety and security aspects concerning the President, the Deputy President including cabinet members in the public domain, national spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe told IOL .
The EFF urged the relevant authorities to provide clarity on the circumstances surrounding this incident and to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
The South African Communist Party SACP also condemned the incident , describing it as a direct attack on the democratic institutions of our Republic.
While we commend the swift response of the SAPS and the involvement of ballistic experts in investigating this matter, it is imperative that those responsible are identified and brought to justice promptly, it said on Monday.
