Residents of Nombanjana village in Centane in the Eastern Cape say poor service delivery, poverty, unemployment and crime are a cause for concern in their area. The residents gathered at the village to receive government services from various departments.

The village, identified as one of the poorest in the area, is part of the Social Development Departments anti-poverty initiative that seeks to address the issue of poverty in communities.

Villagers Mongezi Sem and Nolingene Kokwe speak about the challenges faced by this community.

Our children have nothing. Even with education, they dont get jobs because jobs are given to people with money. We want development here. We want farms so that we can have cattle, sheep and goats, everything that can help us.

Another resident says We live in hunger here. While the government helps us with social grants, we use it to pay for school fees, we use it in our homes and everything.
