Durban Township Businesses Slowly Regaining Momentum
Owners of entertainment venues in various townships around Durban say their businesses are slowly regaining momentum, as more tourists seem to be interested in exploring township lifestyles.
Yesterday, the city authorities indicated that it is likely to exceed R2.5 billion in revenue projected by holidaymakers this festive season, as thousands continue to visit Durban and its surroundings.
Nhlakanipho Mkhize, co-owner of Mkhize Rooftop in Kwamashu Township, says, "People have come out since December 16. We are on. Actually, it has been from long before that people have been coming out in their numbers. Well, it is a beautiful venue, township lifestyle with great service. We employ over 80 people in this building. We offer the whole lifestyle side to hospitality in the township. I think the fact that Elangeni College brought students here for training says we are doing something right.
