Dstv Notifies Subscribers Of Vat Increase Affecting 5 Packages

MultiChoice-owned DStv has notified South African subscribers that the value added tax VAT increase announced in the budget in March will affect five packages.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana announced a 0.5 percentage-point VAT increase for 2025/2026, with a similar hike possible in 2026/2027.
Parliament passed the budgets fiscal framework last week. This means that, as things stand, the increase will take effect on 1 May 2025.
DStv announced its annual price adjustments last month but left the door open for further adjustments.
"As announced in the recent national budget, South Africa's VAT rate will increase by 0.5 to 15.5 from 1 May 2025, the pay TV broadcaster said.
As a result, pricing may be adjusted to reflect the new VAT rate effective 1 May. We will communicate how the VAT increase affects your package pricing in April 2025.
DStv prices after VAT increaseThe company started notifying subscribers about the second adjustments on Thursday, 10 April. Fortunately, they are nominal.

However, various political parties are in talks about potentially reversing the hike before 1 May. These include the African National Congress, ActionSA, Rise Mzansi and Build One South Africa.
Additionally, the Democratic Alliance, Economic Freedom Fighters and uMkhonto weSizwe Party have filed court applications challenging Parliaments adoption of the fiscal framework.
