dstv increases 2025 prices on all packages with vat hike possible

DStv prices for all packages will increase on 1 April 2025 by between 2.1 and 7.9, MultiChoice South Africa informed subscribers by email on Monday 17 March.

Furthermore, subscribers may pay higher amounts if Parliament approves the proposed 0.5 percentage-point hike in value added tax VAT. If approved, it would come into effect from 1 May.

The company delayed the price adjustment announcement following the postponement of this years budget in February and uncertainty around a proposed VAT increase.

Compact Plus and Access have the highest percentage hikes of 6.5 and 7.9 respectively, higher than 2024s average inflation of 4.4 as announced by Statistics South Africa .

In rand terms, the increase for each package is as follows:

  • DStv Premium: R50
  • DStv Compact Plus: R40
  • DStv Compact: R10
  • DStv Family: R10
  • DStv Access: R11
  • DStv EasyView: R1

"As announced in the recent national budget, South Africa's VAT rate will increase by 0.5 to 15.5 from 1 May 2025, MultiChoice SA said.

As a result, pricing may be adjusted to reflect the new VAT rate effective 1 May. We will communicate how the VAT increase affects your package pricing in April 2025.
