Dramatic Rescue As Firefighter Injured Battling Table Mountain Blaze
A dramatic rescue unfolded on Sunday afternoon as a 30-year-old firefighter from NCC Environmental Services was injured while fighting a wildfire on Table Mountain, reports Cape town Etc .
The incident occurred in the treacherous Union Ravine area, where the firefighter slipped and awkwardly twisted his knee, prompting an urgent response from a dedicated team of professionals.
As the flames continued to rage across the iconic mountain, specialist rescue teams from Wilderness Search and Rescue WSAR, along with fire and law enforcement units, sprang into action. The injured firefighter's team had been ascending the steep terrain when disaster struck, leaving the firefighter unable to continue his mission to battle the blaze.
In an impressive show of coordination, a rescue helicopter from the Western Cape Government Health and Wellness EMS / Air Mercy Service AMS was quickly deployed to the scene. The helicopter hovered above the mountain as a team of paramedics and rescue specialists was lowered down to the injured firefighter's location. The crew quickly assessed the situation, providing immediate care for the firefighters knee injury.
After stabilizing him, the rescue team placed the firefighter in a harness and hoisted him from the rugged mountain side. The helicopter whisked him away to a safe landing zone, where he was transferred to a Netcare911 ambulance and taken to the hospital for further treatment.
