US President-elect Donald Trump once attempted to buy Scottish giants Rangers Football Club in 2012, but reportedly stepped out away from the deal because of the club's financial woes at the time.

The 78-year-old Trump is set to make a return to the White House as the 47th President of the United States on Monday after defeating Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in last year's election.

He has promised to end the 'four long years of American decline' and usher in a new era filled with strength, prosperity and dignity.

However, while Trump is mostly known as a politician and a shrewd billionaire businessman, he has often expressed his passion for sports.

Last year, Trump was also seen shaking hands with South Africa's Dricus du Plessis , after he had defeated Australia's Robert Whittaker to become the number one contender. During his campaign, he also received support from athletes such as Kamaru Usman, and Mike Tyson, among others.
