A cap worn by Australia's legendary batsman Don Bradman is set to be auctioned in Sydney on Tuesday. This tattered quotbaggy greenquot cap is expected to fetch up to US260,000 R4.7 million.

Bradman wore the woollen cap during India's 1947-48 tour of Australia, which was the Indian team's first Test series abroad after gaining independence.

Auction house Bonhams has stated that this is quotthe only known baggy greenquot worn by Bradman during one of his most successful series. Bradman scored 715 runs in six innings against the Indian team, averaging 178.75 with three centuries and a double-hundred.

Australia's Test cricketers receive dark green caps, which are highly valued by both players and fans.

Despite the cap's faded condition, signs of insect damage, and a torn peak, Bonhams expects it to sell for between US195,000 and US260,000.

Bradman, who has the highest Test batting average of 99.94, is considered by cricket authority Wisden as the greatest to have ever played the game.

Another quotbaggy greenquot worn by Bradman during his Test debut in 1928 sold for 290,000 in 2020, setting a record for his caps at the time. However, this was less than the US650,000 paid for spin legend Shane Warne's baggy green, which was sold to raise funds for Australian bushfire victims earlier that year.

Bradman passed away in 2001 at the age of 92, and Warne died in 2022 at the age of 52.
