Doge Latest News: Statistics Released Regarding Software Licenses In Use

The Department of Government Efficiency DOGE - led by South African tech billionaire Elon Musk - continues to shake up the USA in a bid to identify government inefficiencies and eliminate what it deems wasteful federal spending.

On the 24 February, DOGE announced via X that US agencies often have more software licenses than employees and that these licenses are often paid for but not installed on the relevant computers.

According to reports, at GSA, a company with 13 000 employees, there are 37 000 WinZip licenses, 19 000 training software subscriptions and 7500 project management software seats. These numbers account for a division with only 5,500 employees.

Earlier this morning, DOGE provided an update on the fixtures that had been implemented following the above revelation.

Initial findings regarding the paid software licenses after the audit was conducted, revealed:

  • 35 855 ServiceNow licenses were being paid for in relation to three products, while only 84 of the licenses were in use.
  • 11 020 Acrobat licenses with zero users.
  • 1 776 Cognos licenses, only 325 were in use.
  • 800 WestLaw Classic licenses, only using 216.
  • 10 000 Java licenses and only 400 were in use.

Following the statistics, the post on X, simply concluded that all are being fixed.
