deputies release details about crash killing fmu wide receiver in broward

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies reported Thursday that the man who died in a car crash earlier this month was Marcus Maurice Williams II. He was 19.

Florida Memorial University announced on Oct. 7 that Williams, a wide receiver who had graduated from Edith Robinson Christian Academy, died in a car crash.

According to the BSO report, Williams, of Fort Lauderdale, was driving a 2016 Honda Pilot eastbound on West Sunrise Boulevard shortly before 445 p.m., on Oct. 6 when it veered out of a lane twice, into two raised concrete medians, damaging pole-mounted road signs.

"As the Honda Pilot continued eastbound towards the overpass bridge at Interstate 95, it left the roadway to the north and collided into two large palm trees," Claudinne Caro, a spokeswoman for BSO, wrote. "The vehicle then rolled over on the raised grass median onto another palm tree."

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue personnel responded and pronounced Williams dead.
