defence in meyiwa case try to discredit ballistic experts findings

The defence in the Senzo Meyiwa trial attempted to discredit the findings by ballistic expert Colonel Chris Mangena by bringing out various witness statements.

These pertain to the type of firearm that was allegedly used to kill the Bafana Bafana captain to the number of gunshots that were allegedly heard that fateful night.

Five men are on trial at the High Court in Pretoria for the murder of Meyiwa. He was shot and killed in 2014 while at Kelly Khumalos parental home in Vosloorus on Gautengs East Rand.

Mangena maintains the gun used to shoot Senzo Meyiwa was a 9mm pistol and not a 38 special revolver as alluded by the defence.

Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu made that assertion based on the firearm described on the written statements provided by some of the eyewitnesses who were present inside the Khumalo home that fateful night.
