A self-sustaining system that provides a sustainable food source and a hands-on learning tool was launched at the De Grendel School of Skills in Milnerton, Cape {town} Etc reports.

The NanoBubbler Aquaponics System was implemented at the school in collaboration with water treatment technology company Fine Bubble Technologies and the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), in partnership with the Department of Education.

In a statement , Fine Bubble Technologies said the system will also provide students with practical skills in aquaculture and environmental stewardship.

Representatives from Stellenbosch University attended the launch to introduce short learning programmes in aquaculture and aquaponics, offering the students more educational opportunities beyond the school.

As reported by Engineering News , aquaponics blends aquaculture (fish farming) and hydroponics (a type of horticulture that involves growing plants).
