da vows to take vat hike issue to court

The Democratic Alliance DA says it will take the VAT hike in the 2025 Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals to court.

This followed the adoption of the report as tabled by Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana by the National Assembly with a slight majority.

The adopted frame work includes recommendations that Treasury must be given 30 days to come up with alternatives to tax hikes, while scrapping the VAT hike and to adjust personal income tax brackets.

Party leader John Steenhuisen says the party will approach the Western Cape High Court as the processing of the budget in unlawful and unconstitutional adding that budget passed with VAT hike will make life more expensive for South Africans.

The DA, the biggest partner to the ANC in the Government of National Unity GNU, did not support the report, leading to the ANC venturing outside of the GNU to garner support from parties like ActionSA.
