Da Takes Vat Hike To Court, Seeks Urgent Interdict

The Democratic Alliance DA has filed an urgent court application to block the 0.5 VAT increase announced in the 2025 Budget.
DA Federal Council Chairperson Helen Zille announced the legal challenge outside the Western Cape High Court on Thursday.
The National Assembly passed the budget on Wednesday, adopting the Fiscal Framework with ActionSAs recommendations. These include requiring Treasury to present alternatives to tax hikes within 30 days, scrapping the proposed VAT increase, and adjusting personal income tax brackets
The DA says the budget was pushed through without proper oversight.
