Da Slams Anc's 'race-based' Policies After 'working Visit' To Us
The Democratic Alliance DA has reiterated its opposition to what it calls the African National Congress ANC race-based policies - shortly after concluding a week-long working visit to US capital Washington DC.
The visit was aimed at aimed at stabilising diplomatic relations between South Africa and the United States during this period of heightened tensions, the partys spokesperson for international relations and cooperation Emma Louise Powell said on Wednesday 5 March.
DA visit Washington, USDuring the visit, the DA engaged with key decision-makers across Congress, the State Department and the White House, Powell said.
These discussions were aimed at ensuring that US leaders receive accurate and fact-based information regarding South Africa's domestic landscape and the challenges our nation is currently navigating.
She did not reveal who was in the delegation and which US officials they met. Coincidentally, civil society groups AfriForum and Solidarity also claimed to have met White House representatives last week.
The groups have been widely blamed for spreading misinformation about South Africas policies, leading to US President Donald Trumps adverse executive order against the country last month.
Race-based policiesPowell said based on discussions during the visit, it was clear that much work must be done in order to rebuild bilateral trust.
The DA has consistently called for a comprehensive reform of South Africa's foreign policy agenda and the consistent application of our policy of non-alignment in advancing our national interest, she added.
The DA remains resolute in opposing the ANC's divisive, race-based policies and advocating for a means-based approach to addressing systemic inequality.
Powell recalled that the DA has filed a court challenge against the Expropriation Act. We have full faith that our judiciary will continue to safeguard the private property rights of all South Africans.
