Da Condemns Mchunu For Classifying Phala Phala Report As Top Secret
The Democratic Alliance DA has condemned Police Minister Senzo Mchunus decision to classify the Independent Police Investigative Directorate IPID report on the Phala Phala incident as top secret.
The party says this is an attempt to shield the government from taking accountability.
On Wednesday, Mchunu announced that IPID has completed its investigation into the break-in at Phala Phala, but stated that the report will be classified as top secret and will not be made public.
He made these comments in a written reply to a parliamentary question from the African Transformation Movements leader, Vuyo Zungula.
DA Member of Parliament Lisa Schickerling says ranking the IPID report as top secret, whereas other reports on the same incident are publicly accessible, raises serious concerns about selective transparency.
