da calls on nersa to reject eskoms 40 price hike proposal

The Democratic Alliance DA has protested today against Eskoms proposed 40 tariff increase for the cost of electricity outside Cresta Grande, where the National Energy Regulator of South Africa NERSA public hearing took place, Cape town Etc reports.

Among the reasons cited, was the rising costs of living which would make it difficult for citizens to afford electricity, especially in the face of inflation which stands at 4, according to Western Cape Premier Alan Winde.

In addition, every DA mayor across South Africa has also rejected the proposed price hike, according to Dr Ivan Meyer, Federal Chairperson of the DA.

Cape town Etc has previously reported on how South Africas parliament debated a proposal from NERSA to increase Eskom electricity tariffs by as much as 40 next year.

The legality of the energy regulators decision to allow Eskom to add an R8 billion make-up tariff in 2025 was also a main talking point.
