Da Calls For Intervention After Taxi Disruption Warning In Mbombela

The Democratic Alliance DA in Mpumalanga has urged the provincial Roads and Transport Department to intervene following warnings of disruptions to scholar transport in Mbombela on March 3, 2025.

The TopStar Minibus Taxi Association has announced a crackdown on taxi operators without permits, leading to concerns among operators who transport children and workers.

DA's Teboho Sekaledi emphasized the need for all stakeholders to engage constructively to prevent criminal actions, as transport plays a critical role in the local economy.

If everybody participates meaningfully with a well-regulated and legislated economic condition, then we wont find ourselves having one people on even confiscating cars of which is an act of criminality and that cannot be tolerated. Transportation, I can tell you, is a very huge part of our economy. I can tell you there are many places that I have driven around even in Mbombela where people, waiting, stranded for a long time because they dont have transport, Sekaledi said, pointing out the widespread reliance on public transport.
