Eskom says customers dont need to come to their offices, but can recode their prepaid meters themselves.
This as hundreds of customers flock to Eskom offices in a last minute rush to get their meters recoded ahead of the Sunday deadline.
Eskom has also refuted claims that it did not communicate enough, saying it has been doing awareness campaigns since last year.
Eskom Gauteng spokesperson Amanda Qithi says some of the customers whove been on the long queues outside their offices were not supposed to be there in the first place.
For the customers whose details are up to date, we did send SMSs to them if theyve recoded meters to say Dear customer, your meter has now been recoded you do not need to come to our offices nor call our call centre. Secondly, we look at the electricity receipt that they go buy. If it is showing KRN2 and has the correct SGCS code, then we already tell that customer you can go home. The only thing you need to do when you get home is to punch in those 20-digits to verify that your meter has been recoded.
